2021-22 Region Championship Information

The Region Championships will be held at Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen on the weekend of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th February 2022.

The list of Region Qualifiers is now available:

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you keep your cloth numbers safe, they will be needed at the Region Championships and we do not have replacements.

The FINAL program is available below,  The Order of Events lists a ‘not before’ time.

Families will need to do one duty per athlete at the Region Championships due to the large number of duties Manly Warringah have been allocated.

A link to the 2022 Region Championships Parent Duty Roster was be emailed to the primary email address (used when registering) on Sunday 6th February at 8:00pm. Please get in quick to select a duty at your preferred timeslot.  Remember to check your junk folder if you don’t receive it.

All parent helpers must be wearing closed in shoes – not thongs or sandals.

In order to have your duty recorded you will need to sign in at least 15 minutes prior to the commencement of your duty and sign out at the conclusion of your duty with the MWLAC Team Manager located in the MWLAC tent. Please see the MWLAC website regarding the consequences for not performing your duty. We are sure you can appreciate the volunteer nature of Little Athletics across the State and will support your child and the Centre in this regard. Thank you.

On arrival ALL athletes must register their attendance with the MWLAC Team Manager located in the MWLAC tent.   This must be done at least one hour before the ‘not before’ time as listed in the final program.

Events may be called 30 minutes prior to the ‘not before’ time ready to start at that time. If an athlete does not turn up for their event at marshalling, it runs without them and they miss out.

Region gifts will be collected at Check-in.

The Manly Warringah Centre [not club] Uniform must be worn with the following in order to compete.  This is the same uniform that was worn at the Zone Championships:

  • Cloth Registration Number on the front of the Centre Uniform top with the red border fully visible (this will be handed at the Zone Championships)
  • Coles Patch on the front right shoulder of the Centre Uniform top (this will be handed out at the Zone Championships)
  • Age Patch on the front left-hand side leg (this is currently being worn at Saturday competitions)

Compression pants may only be worn beneath the uniform and must be above the knee.  Compression pants must not show any contrasting coloured stitching or logos.

Please note, there will be no leniency shown at Region marshalling.  Any competitor not correctly attired will be sent to their Team Manager to correct their uniform, but please note that the event will not be held waiting for them to return.

U7, U8, U9 & U10: Spikes may not be worn in any event.

U11 – U12: Spikes may be worn in all track events run entirely in lanes, all jumps events and javelin.

U13 to U17: Spikes may be worn in all track events (except walks), all jumps events, and javelin.

Please note:

  • No athlete may compete bare foot in any event.
  • All spike shoes must be worn with all holes filled with a complete set of spikes, with no more than two blanks/slugs installed.
  • Spiked shoes must only be worn during the event.  Spiked shoes must be removed or suitably covered before leaving the defined ‘Field of Play’ and must not be worn to walk around the venue.
  • At Narrabeen, any brand of Christmas Tree spikes up to 7mm on the track and 9mm for jumps may be used. If Pyramid spikes are used only the following Omni Lite Pyramid Spikes are permitted on the Narrabeen Track
    • Pyramid 5mm
    • Pyramid 7mm
    • Pyramid 9mm – jumps only

When wearing spike shoes, a standing start is allowed.  However, If using a crouch start when wearing spike shoes, the starting blocks provided MUST be used.

It is a requirement of Little Athletics that all children must accompanied to the Carnival by a parent or adult guardian.  However, parents and guardians are not permitted in the competition area at any time unless carrying out a parent helper duty.

It is not uncommon to sight snakes at the venue.  Please be alert and aware at all times, and for this reason it is emphasized that parent helpers must be wearing closed shoes, and strongly recommended that all adults and athletes wear closed shoes (not their spikes) when walking around the venue, particularly the upper throws area and long jumps 1 and 2 on the far side of the track away from the grandstand.

The Region Championships will go ahead regardless of the weather, so athletes and parents should come prepared with hats and sunscreen as well as umbrellas and raincoats!

In the event of extreme conditions, such as excessive heat, storms or flooding, the Championships may be delayed or temporarily suspended.  Any decision to delay or postpone the Championships will be made by the Region Committee and advised to Centre Team Managers as soon as possible.

The only designated warm up area for events other than discus is on the small grass area on the outside of the track on the opposite side to the grandstand.

For discus warm up only we have been permitted access to the cricket nets.  Access is not allowed to any other sports fields at the Sport and Rec facility.  Unfortunately, there are no areas to warm up with shot put or javelin implements.

There is to be NO warming up on the track after 7.30 a.m. once the first marshalling call has been made on both days of the carnival.

An area designated for Coaches to speak with athletes will be clearly marked on the perimeter fence for all field events EXCEPT at Triple Jump pits 1 and 2 (due to the possibility for interference across the track).

There will be a Clash Manager (and assistants) responsible for collecting athletes from field events and taking them to track events when there is a clash.

If you know your child has a clash please make us aware at check in.  We will write the child’s events on their hand each morning, along with the ‘not before time’ so that the Event Chief and Clash Manager can more easily assist in identify any event clashes during the day.

Event Chiefs will be instructed only to release children to designated Clash Manager/Assistants (identified by a lanyard). Parents they MUST NOT remove children from an event themselves. If they do, the child risks disqualification.

Athletes will be collected from field events by the Clash Assistants and taken to the start of their track event. They will not be taken from the field event until the track event competitors are assembled at the start line. Athletes will be told to return to their field event by track officials, but they will not be escorted back to the field event.

In addition to being posted on the notice board at the ground, all results will be available online as soon as possible after the event.  You can access these results at http://www.littlearesults.com/region5

All competitors will receive a medal if they are placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a final.   Medals will be presented as soon as possible after the event.  Track medalists should remain in the designated shade tent at the finish line until their medal presentation*.  Field medalists will be taken to the presentation area by an official at the conclusion of their event.

Athletes in the 1500m Walk and 3000m run who do not achieve the qualifying times for the State Championships will still receive medals at Region for placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but will not progress unless the times above are achieved.

*Athletes who are required to return to a field event should make the track officials and medals officials aware of this and a decision will be made as to whether medals are presented immediately or held until after the field event finishes.

Medals will be pre-engraved with the age group and event.

Ensign Engraving will be engraving on site from approximately 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday if athletes wish to add their own name, performance details, etc. They will be located near the canteen.  The cost will be just $10 to record the athlete name and performance details.

For withdrawal from a field event, no action is required.

If an athlete wishes to withdraw from a track event, the Team Manager should advise the Information Desk up to 60 minutes prior to the event to allow start lists to be amended accordingly.

The following services will be available:

  • Full canteen and BBQ
  • First Aid by St John Ambulance Manly Warringah Division
  • Tensegrity Sports Chiropractors
  • Kings Track and Field – all day both days
  • Instant Photos will be there both days with photos available for sale on site only –photos will not be available online after the event.

U8: Competitors do not progress beyond Region.

U9 to U17: The first 2 place getters in a final automatically progress to the State Championships.  In addition, the next best 8 competitors in each event across the State will progress.

Only the first place Relay Team will progress to the State Championships.

The State Championships will take place over two days – Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2022 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC).

The State program is quite different to the Region 5 program, so all competitors (U9 and above) are requested to check the State program carefully to ensure you are available in the event of qualification.

Any athlete who may qualify to compete at the State Championship but who knows they will not participate must advise the Team Manager BEFORE the end of the Region carnival weekend.

All athletes who qualify for the Region Championships will receive one of the following gifts:

  • Option 1 – Spike Bag
  • Option 2 – Cooler Bag

Both items were hanging in the front of the Manly Warringah tent over the weekend or you can click here to have a look at the them.

Click here to let us know which item your athlete would prefer. We need your responses by Tuesday 1st February @ 9:00am – for those who miss the deadline, you will still receive a gift but there is no guarantee your preferred option will be available.  We are happy for you to complete the form even if you are not sure if your athlete has qualified.  As the turnaround time is so tight we need to send this information to the supplier as soon as the qualifiers are announced.
