2021-22 Zone Championship Information

The North East Met Zone (NEMZ) Championships will be held at Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen on the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th January 2022.

The FINAL program is available below. Click the links below to check for any changes to your athlete’s event times:

The Manly Warringah Centre [not club] Uniform must be worn with the following in order to compete:

  • Cloth Registration Number on the front of the Centre Uniform top with the red border fully visible (this will be handed out when the athlete checks in at the Zone Championships)
  • Coles Patch on the front right shoulder of the Centre Uniform top (this will be handed out when the athlete checks in at the Zone Championships)
  • Age Patch on the front left-hand side leg (this is currently being worn at Saturday competitions)

The uniform will be available to purchase from the track at Narrabeen at the twilight competitions held on Friday 14th and 21st January 2022.  Please ensure you purchase the uniform on one of these dates.  This uniform is also worn for Regional and State Championships.

Compression pants may only be worn beneath the uniform and must be above the knee.  Compression pants must not show any contrasting coloured stitching or logos.

Please note, any competitor not correctly attired will be sent to their Team Manager to correct their uniform, but please note that the event will not be held waiting for them to return.

U7, U8, U9 & U10: Spikes may not be worn in any event.

U11 – U12: Spikes may be worn in all track events run entirely in lanes, all jumps events and javelin.

U13 to U17: Spikes may be worn in all track events (except Walks), all jumps events, and javelin.

All competitors: Spikes with the spikes removed or blanks inserted may not be worn in any events.

No athlete may compete bare foot in any event.

Families will need to do one duty per athlete at the Zone Championships due to the large number of duties Manly Warringah have been allocated.

A link to the 2022 Zone Championships Parent Duty Roster will be emailed to the primary email address (used when registering) on Wednesday 19th January at 8:00pm. Please get in quick to select a duty at your preferred timeslot.  Remember to check your junk folder if you don’t receive it.

All parent helpers must be wearing closed in shoes – not thongs or sandals.

In order to have your duty recorded you will need to sign in at least 15 minutes prior to the commencement of your duty and sign out at the conclusion of your duty with the MWLAC Team Manager located in the MWLAC tent. Please see the MWLAC website regarding the consequences for not performing your duty. We are sure you can appreciate the volunteer nature of Little Athletics across the State and will support your child and the Centre in this regard. Thank you.

On arrival ALL athletes must register their attendance with the MWLAC Team Manager located in the MWLAC tent.  If it is their first day of competition they will pick up their cloth number and Coles patch.  This must be done at least one hour before the event time as listed in the final program.

The first marshalling call for track and field events will be at 8:00am on both days.

All track events marshalling will occur on the northern side of the track near the 1500m starting point.

For first field events each day athletes will proceed directly to their event for marshalling at the competition area. For all other field event marshalling competitors must make their way to the designated field marshalling area located behind the 100m starting point on the front track.

Click here for a map of the track.

Each event will receive two marshalling calls. The first call will be made 20 – 25 minutes before the event start time followed by a second and final call 7 minutes later. In the case of track events, marshalling where possible will close 3 minutes later, with no athlete entries (with the exception of field event clashes) permitted after that cut off point. This policy will ensure that seeding adjustments can be made in the event of multiple athlete withdrawals to ultimately provide a fairer outcome for all competitors.

There is to be NO warming up inside the perimeter fence of the track after 8:00am on both days of the carnival.

Where possible an area designated for Coaches to speak with athletes will be clearly marked on the perimeter fence for all field events EXCEPT at Triple Jump pits 1 and 2 (due to the possibility for interference across the track).

There will be a Clash Manager (and assistants) responsible for collecting athletes from field events and taking them to track events when there is a clash.  Event Chiefs will be instructed only to release children to designated Clash Manager/Assistants (identified by a lanyard).  Please advise parents they MUST NOT remove children from an event themselves.  If they do, the child risks disqualification.

Please arrange for adult supervision of your child if you are unable to attend.  It is not the responsibility of the Age Managers & Officials to provide supervision of athletes.

Under 7 competitors will receive medals if they are placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a final.

In addition to being posted on a notice board at the ground, all results will be available online as soon as possible after the event.  You can access these results at http://www.littlearesults.com/NEMZ/

Zone Championships will most likely proceed irrespective of the weather conditions. Athletes should ideally take a small backpack/bag with a hat/sunscreen, drink bottles and a jumper/jacket etc.

In the event of extreme conditions, such as excessive heat, storms or flooding, the Championships may be delayed or temporarily suspended. Any decision to delay or postpone the Championships will be made by the Zone Committee and advised to Centre Team Managers as soon as possible.

In accordance with the prevailing health orders NSW Office of Sport have advised that it will be necessary for all attendees be they athletes, spectators or officials, over 12 years of age to bring a mask and to wear within the toilets, the room occupied by Tensegrity the chiropractors, and when in congested areas such as the grandstand, queueing at the canteen or track and field marshalling areas when social distancing cannot be applied.

It is not uncommon to sight snakes at the venue.  Please be alert and aware at all times, and for this reason it is emphasized that parent helpers must be wearing closed shoes, and strongly recommended that all adults and athletes wear closed shoes (not their spikes) when walking around the venue, particularly the upper throws area and long jumps 1 and 2 on the far side of the track away from the grandstand.

Instant Photos are back this year. They will be at the track with their van situated inside at the track entrance taking action pictures of the athletes.

The portaloos are for the benefit of only the athletes, officials and parent helpers that are currently rostered on. All others must use the main toilets area.

Any athlete who may qualify to compete at the Regional Championship but who knows they will not be available must advise the Team Manager BEFORE the end of the Zone carnival weekend.
